Move-In Day, RED Talk Sept.29, Thanks from Class Scholar

Greetings from campus!  It’s hard to believe but this week is Move-in Day for the Class of 2030!  Welcome to 3682 new students and 603 transfers from all states and territories of the US (save one) and 62 countries.  What an adventure is in store for these new Cornellians!

Also, please circle Tuesday, September 29th at 8pm EST on your calendar for what will be a special Class of ’74 RED Talk Zoom. Peter Loewen, Dean of Arts & Sciences (and a political scientist), will be speaking with me to our class about his course called Disagreement. More details to come.

Finally, our Class of ’74 Scholar, Marianna Wineinger, is preparing to start her sophomore year. I reached out to Marianna to get her thoughts as she returns to the Hill:

Dear Class of 1974,

Hello! It’s hard to believe that my freshman year at Cornell has already come and gone, and I’m now getting ready to begin my sophomore year! My first semester was spent in Washington, D.C., so I’m excited to have a more well-rounded Cornell experience this year and finally get to know Ithaca during my favorite season, autumn. I’ve heard that Ithaca is especially beautiful in the fall, from the changing leaves to the farmers’ markets.

I’m also excited to take my first PE class this fall: paddleboarding! I’m hoping it will give me a chance to explore Ithaca’s lakes and enjoy the outdoors. I am continuing my studies in Public Policy while also taking Portuguese. My mom’s side of the family is from Brazil, so I’m excited to strengthen my connection to my family and culture. I’m also continuing my job at Collegetown Bagels near campus, which has been a wonderful experience. And I hope to become more involved in the Ithaca community through volunteering and community service.

I want to sincerely thank all of you for your generosity and continued support of my education. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity you have helped provide me. I hope to make the most of my time at Cornell and to continue growing into someone who can give back to others in the same spirit of generosity that you have shown me. Thank you again for supporting my journey.

Sincerely,

Marianna

Here’s to a successful and rewarding school year for all Cornellians!
